No, SokoLocal is free for shoppers to use. We make money by offering advertising to businesses and partaking in affiliate programs. Businesses are not required to pay to gain value from SokoLocal, nor do we charge service or commission fees.
SokoLocal does not tender payment on behalf of businesses. You go to the destination site and directly pay the business for any products you would like from them—alternatively, you can buy it from them in-store, but be sure to tell them SokoLocal sent you!
If your business is on SokoLocal, it’s likely you’ve been nominated by someone in your community. When a site is nominated, eligible sites are automagically been added. We’re currently working to list as many local businesses as possible, so if you’re not on SokoLocal, click here to list your business.

Yes, your business can be listed in our local directory, however, your business and products will not appear in SokoLocal search results. If you’d like your products to be listed, you can create an online store through JustPickup, Shopify, Square or Wix.
Currently, we refresh content at least once a month so that your products effortlessly stream onto the site without you having to update them. We may adjust the refresh frequency based on the category. More product update options will be coming soon!
“Out of the box” SokoLocal is free for shoppers to use and for businesses to be listed. To get a business on SokoLocal, the website must first meet our baseline SEO indexing requirements—you can use our SEO advisor to check if your site qualifies for cataloguing.
These are the ways we make money:
- Advertising & Paid Promotion: For businesses looking for greater exposure on SokoLocal, we offer branded advertising partnerships or promoted/featured listings. For more information, inquire about advertising on SokoLocal.
- Affiliate Programs: Some retailers offer incented affiliate relationships that pay commission based on a sale or a flat referral rate. SokoLocal utilizes these programs when available, but we do not broker payments or take a percentage of sales from retailers who do not offer these programs. If your business offers an affiliate program, tell us about it.
- SEO Services to make businesses easier to find online: Search engine optimization (SEO) for your website can be a tricky process to get right.
